OUT As I Want To Be is a non-profit advocacy organization dedicated to the support & empowerment of LGBTQ young people in midcoast Maine.
Since 1996, we have worked to support youth in Knox, Lincoln and Waldo counties, and we currently operate a drop-in center based in downtown Rockland, ME. Drop-in is a safe space for youth under age 22 to explore and express their identities at any point in their journey, a place where they can find supportive peers and adult allies, confidential discussion groups, community-oriented projects and activities, and space to be themselves free of judgment.
In addition to drop-in, OUT brings GSTAs (Gay-Straight-Trans Alliances) to schools in Knox, Waldo & Lincoln counties, and reaches out to parents & community members to foster safe spaces for youth where they live, beyond the walls of our drop-in center.
Do you or someone you know need additional support? Information about local health & wellness resources? Are you looking for allies in our community? Go HERE! for a list of local & national service providers, queer networks, and allied organizations.
LGBTQ YOUTH RETREAT:
Be The Change!
OUT will be hosting a free retreat for LGBTQ youth at beautiful Camp Kieve on April 24th & 25th!
It's a great opportunity for young people to develop leadership skills, connect with other youth, and work together to change their communities.
